The PPG microfiches usually had a description of what the color originally came on under the PPG paint code number and color name in the header of the microfiche itself, similiar to below:
DBU 81518 - Yellow
International Harvester/Cub Cadet Yellow
One bummer was that the non-automotive & the non-metallic color chip books didn't have much for information with the color chip besides the color code itself. PPG did have an awesome cross-reference (it was over 1.5" thick when I worked at the auto parts store) book that you could find something to match to if you had a number from a different manufacturer.
