possible purchase
Hello all, I am looking at a HDS 2155 tractor. has a kohler command and a 42" deck. Starts and runs good, hydro is quiet. Here is the part that worries me. The pto is not engaging. He stated that he thinks its a loose wire on the switch, he said he took the switch out and took it apart and put it back in and the PTO briefly worked then stopped again. I see a new switch is only about $30 so thats not bad. But in your experience, does this sound like the problem? or could it be a bad PTO? Thanks, Jason

I'd be suspicious they're hiding a bigger pto issue. There's some honest good people out there but I've been told so many stories just to make a quick sell that I'm a natural pessimist when I can't see something for myself. I'd jump the pto to see if it works or assume it has pto issues. Or take your own switch. If it's the issue you had to buy it anyway and if not you saved yourself for 30 bucks from a tractor with a bad pto.

I'm not as familiar with newer tractors like that but you should be able to run a power wire from the battery straight to the pto for a second to see if it engages quick. That just bi-passes and rules out the switch. Also check the fuse if it has one?
