Default Looking at a 2086

What is this worth. Here is the ad text:

1998 CUB CADET,20HP KAWASAKI OHC ENGINE,60"CUT,POWER STEERING,HYDRAULIC DECK LIFT(1/4" DECK STEEL),EXCELLENT TIRES,GARAGE KEPT,WELL CARED FOR,ALL BELT GUARDS AND DISCHARGE CHUTE GO WITH IT(NOT SHOWN)FREE DELIVERY WITHIN 50 MILES.

He wants 1000.00 for it. I wish it was a 1782. It also has about 650 hours. What does everyone think? Not a very good picture, but it was the best I could get. Thanks, Greg.

That's a good price and very low hours. When you going to pick it up?

Those are nice water cooled tractors. IIRC there was a problem with the engine on these. I think it has to do with the timing gear or something like that that needs to be upgraded. Maybe someone will chime in and let us know. I missed one of those a year ago and never seen another for sale close to me. Good luck I hope you get it.

Seems like a good deal for a working SGT, I gave more than that for a 2284 sgt w/54" deck(about the same age but 755hrs on it). people are asking 2-3 times that for good condition SGT's. Don't know that engine though, kind of a one off for them.

Have Fun!

The problem with the Kawasaki FD620V is the plastic camshaft. They usually break around 800-900 hours and should be replaced before that. An upgraded steel camshaft is availble from Kawasaki. The 2086 has the same engine as a John Deere 425.

What I cannot understand is why 2086s are priced so cheap? Last year I came so close to getting a cherry 700 hour 2086 for $750!

I went and drove it and mowed his yard for about 10 minutes. The 60" deck is a very nice deck. I did not get it, the engine ran great, but the temp light came on and when I drove back up to the house, the owner said that is the first time it had done that. I have been burned by people not telling the truth. I did offer him 700.00 for it but he said noway. Everything else was tight, the steering and transmission was quick and smooth. I want it, but I have too many projects now. Thanks for all the input.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
