When I tried to start the cub yesterday the starter turned the engine for a second and stoped. I checked to make sure the engine was free and removed the plugs, still nothing. I removed the starter, hooked it up and found that the bendix goes out but does not turn.
Any special dissassembly procuders for this starter? According to the price for a new one on Partstree I really need to fix this one. Kohler 24 098 01 228000-2640 ND Denso Cannon |

IF your Cub is original, it rolled out of the factory with a Kohler CH18S - Spec #62588.
With that in mind, the starter for the above would be......25-098-11-S Things I would check are: * Battery cable connections * Starter solenoid * Make sure the engine is properly grounded

Thanks for the reply. The motor in mine is a CH18S-62509. I got it from a friend who bought it new and believe it is original.
I clean all battery and solenoid connections and am reading 12.40 volts from +battery to starter housing and -battery to solenoid nut where the battery cable connects. Still the Bendix goes out to engage the flywheel but does not turn. Cannon |

After taking the starter apart, cleaning, inspecting and reassembling it I put it back on the tractor without any improvement. As a last resort I cleaned the battery +post and that fixed it. I like to save the simple fixes for last. This is the second time I have been fooled into thinking that because the VOM shows 12 volts that full power is getting to a starter. Thanks

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
