When I mowed with a 44C, the IH Cub Cadet dealer had carbide IH blades.

The carbide was brazed to the bottom of the blades.

The suction of the mower would lift sand from the lawn, the sand would only erode away the exposed steel upper portion of the blade.

The blades were self sharpening!!

I would cut 5 acres a week with them and they lasted 2 seasons.

If you cut 1 acre or less they would last 10 years!!

When the cut degraded, I would just replace them.

I think part of the reason I consumed the blades so fast was that my home and farm were "brand new", just bulldozed out of a wooded area.

10 years later I was still getting rocks out of the lawn.

The rocks were very hard on the carbide, and the rock were much harder on regular blades!!

I had a set on this. Roy makes them to fit your mower so what ever you need he will build unless the blade is to short. Couldn't get a set for my old 38" deck.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
