Default two deck questions

First, I have a 48" deck that came with my 147. The 147 has a bad PTO clutch, so the 48" deck has been on the 72, which never had a 48" deck available, 7hp is too little and all...

Anyway, I don't know if its the way I have them mismatched, or something with the deck, but my idler is rubbing the deck belt, it has badly eroded it. The idler also bounces around a lot when the pto is engaged. When I get a new belt, what is the fix? More tension on the mule drive adjuster? Tighter belt?
Here is a pic of the problem area.

Second question, will this deck, I think a 44A, work on my 147 and 72? Both have the hangers in the front, and the spring loaded pins in back of the under frame.

Is $150 a fair price?

Thanks

The tang on the spring goes in the hole in the idler pulley arm...it appears to have jumped out for some reason. A 44A will not properly fit on any NF tractor...you might be able to get it on there, but from what I've heard it won't lift high enough to be useful. That deck is pretty rough-looking for $150...I don't think I could sell a rebuilt one for that. I've bought nicer-looking decks for $30 in the past.

Make sure you get a 1/2" belt for the beck. On the 44A deck the center pulley is offset so getting the correct under carrige lined up will be the problem. I think the deck belt is 1/2" x80". Just double check. Also make sure the pulleys are clean inside( V part).

Thanks for the help. I'll pass on the 44a.

What model decks will work for my narrow frame 147 and 72, with the hangers in front and spring loaded pins in back?

What is the correct size deck belt for my 48" deck? The identification number is 482 U 1113.

You can use any of the quick-attach 38", 42", or 48" decks on your NF tractors.

You just have to be conscious of where the guide wheels are on the mower deck in relation to the rear wheels of the tractor, they may not fit. I have wide rear tires on my 147 tractor and I use a 48" deck that does not require modification. I could use a 38 or 42 inch deck but I'd have to make sure the deck wheels are out far enough to clear the tractor tires.

It looks like the deck belt on the 48 is to long, hence the reason why the idler is over the other part of the belt.

Could be, but the primary problem is that the spring is installed incorrectly.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
