Default Rear Tiller

I have just purchased my first cub a 1978 1200. I'm interested in planting some small food plots with it at my hunt camp. Is this tiller adequate for a rocky soil or do I need something else. Not much of a farmer!

How rocky is it? You might have to use a plow to open the ground. You'll have to watch out for rocks getting stuck between the tines. You'll need a creeper gear for the tiller. The tillers work great but worried about how rocky the soil is.

I second that.
Being we put in acres of food plots a year, if it was me I would use the tractor and drag of some sort, and save on the tiller.
Rock are rough on equipment.

Rocks+tiller= no problem BUT you've got to keep an eye on it. They get stuck very easily so be prepared to shut off the pto in a hurry. Also, they bounce around the tiller gearbox and that can come loose. It'll work, you just have to keep an extra eye on things.

youd be better off with getting a plow, cultivator, and disc. or just one of those real fancy atv food plot discs. they run around 3 to 500 bucks but from what I hear they work great.

I would think the real question is "Just how big are these rocks?"

Anything as big as a baseball will surly shorten the life of your tiller.

If you do have baseball sized rocks, I would suggest that you drag a curved tooth cultivator through it several times (going deeper with each pass) and stack the rocks in a pile at the edge of your property line.

Just my opinion.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
