Been reading up lately, and here on the forum. I had recently be came educated in the differences between a creeper that came from a IH wide frame gear drive garden tractor and that of a IH narrow frame gear drive garden tractor.
My problem is that I have a wide frame creeper going into a narrow frame garden tractor. With out taking and rebuilding the whole creeper unit, How hard is it to change from a wide frame creeper handle to a narrow frame creeper handle?? Any pictures, advice, tips or know-how is welcome! I'm surprised this is not a common question,..........

Uhhh.. Any skilled tradesman will make you any shifter that you want for under $100..... What's the real issue?

John, I think you have to pull the input shaft out to get the shifter collar out, which would allow you to drive the roll pin out of the shift yoke and lever shaft. Then you'd drive the pin out of the lever shaft and the shift poppet. Then the lever(handle) should come out. To pull the input shaft you remove the large snap ring holding the input shaft bearing cage in the housing. Looking at the 1X8/9 service manual, page 2-74, you'd do steps 1,2, 9,10, 11, and 12. It's not a complete dissassembly, but pretty close.

On a creeper that came from a wide frame, the shift handle is longer both horizontal and vertical. { think a plain old 2 foot framing square, or 90* angle }

We should have swapped creeper gears. I just bent and extended the handle on my NF creeper to fit my WF build.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
