The picture is kind of fuzzy, but I'm almost 100% sure the side says Hydro 186. That is a hydrostatic drive tractor. Very cool. Pretty rare tractor. Don't see many. IH was the only tractor company to offer a hydro version of their farm tractors. This was a practice they kept until they sold to Tennico. They were great for jobs like plowing snow, loader work, cultivating, planting, mowing, baling, forage harvesting..... etc. Anything but tillage. Hydro would overheat, plus there is a significant loss of HP through a hydro. Cool pic!!!

I'd love to plow some snow in that IH!

At first I thought it was a 1086 or something similar but now that I see it's a hydro I bet it wouldn't be too bad plowing snow....just box the side of the plow to get a snow box and your good!!!
Those Hydro internationals were good for raking hay and feeding. We have a newer 2000s John Deere 125hp at the farm that is hydrostatic drive and it's odd to run. Not sure if I'm a fan or not. |

Good eye Jonathon, it is a 186 hydro. I don't know much about the big IH's, it's always fun to learn!
HaHa, but I'd do it too if I had the chance.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
