Default key switch repair

Ever lose your key or never got the key with the nos to u cub, lol.
Here's how to fix the switch, easy fix and no key is needed at all. Tomorrow ill tell how to re-key if you want to use a key
(1) Remove switch from tractor and mark wires with masking tape.
(2) Find the tiny hole on top of switch
(3) Insert a small tiny tool like a Allen Wrench and push down, then pull out on the part the key goes in, (be careful to go slow the tumblers are spring loaded.
(4)Now remove tumblers and springs, five in all. Starting from the key end to the insert end. leave the last one in, its got 2 edges on it and 1 spring.its the 1 that keeps the switch together.it has no affect on key itself, but must be kept in tact
(5) Now the tumbler that's left, 1 nearest the inside push down with your fingernail and slide back in switch, tumbler across from tiny hole. You should not be able to pull key insert out again without Allen or likewise tool.
(6) You can now use the switch to start cub with any key, screwdriver or even long fingernail. If your worried about kids starting it, and do not have a safety switch where the clutch needs to be pushed down, tomorrow ill tell you how to keep tumblers in and make key to work with a little more time and patients or if your a perfectionist like me.
(7) This saves $25 to $40 not having to buy a new switch.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
