Hey guys, I'm Steve and I'm a newbie. I'll give you a little background about me. I don't have much experience with Cub Cadets or lawn tractors in general. I'm 26 and grew up never needing a tractor. The yards where I lived were always small enough to use a push mower. My wife and I sold our last house back in September and have been staying with her parents until we found a new house, which we did in January (closing in 2 weeks). Since we've lived there, I've helped out my father in law with cutting grass and such. He has a 106, that he put a 12 hp engine on. We've had 3 20+ inch snowstorms this year. The first one we worked together clearing snow from the driveway with a blade. The second two, he's been away plowing parking lots. So I got to use the Cub exclusively. The blade wasn't cutting it and he walked me through putting the snowthrower on (which was very easy by the way). I've pushed the thing hard with clearing these latest snows and it's done a great job. I came away really impressed with the durability of the tractor. I know for a fact any of these box store tractors would have blown up being subjected to that abuse.
So at any rate, he has a 122 sitting in the garage that he bought some time ago to fix up. He's never gotten around to it and probably never will so he's offered to let me have it. I'm excited to get this running again and put to good use. I want to get some machine work on the block to make sure everything is straight with the motor. I just haven't decided if I want to do most of the rebuild work myself or have the shop do it all. I've torn apart a car engine and rebuilt that myself so I have the know how, I just don't know if I have the time to devote to it. It needs some cosmetic work as well but I think fixing this bad boy up will definitely be worth it. I hope to learn a lot from you guys. And thanks for having a site like this. These forums are great for DIYers. Steve |

I'm near the York area, about 15 miles south in New Freedom. The new house is actually a stone's throw away from the MD line.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
