Default 1641 PTO to mower deck belt

I just got a 1641 with a 44 gt mower deck on it. I just replaced the belt that runs from the pto to the mower deck. My problem is when i engage the pto the belt on the left side runs fine but on the right side it flops around an hits off the mounting bracket an the deck, is this normal? With the pto off an the tensioners adjusted correctly the belt is nice an tight but when the pto is engaged it really flops around on the one side.

Mike

When a belt is under load, only one side has tension on it. The other "half" of the belt is just traveling back to the "load". It's normal for the non-loaded side to slap around a bit, but not to the point it's hitting things. You need to check and make sure that the tensioners on the mule drive move freely like they should. Sometimes they get "sticky". They are spring loaded, and it sounds like they aren't flexing like they should.

Thanks, I hope to learn alot from here. It turns out that a cotter pin broke on the height adjuster for the deck on the side that the belt was flopping around on. I don't know how I didnt see it before but I put in a new pin in it an it runs great now an got rid of the extra slop in the belt.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
