Default First time poster, my 2072

I've been browsing this site and researching since I got my 782 a couple years back. That turned out to be an excellent lawn tractor which, of course, led my acquisition of this 2072.

Didn't take long to discover the rear end problems these tractors are known for. I had to pull the axle housings to helicoil all 4 upper frame mount holes. My front trans mounts are all intact with good threads even, but all the bolts were long gone. Just have a slow drip at a couple lower bolt holes. I'll address that when my braces arrive from xtreme.

The power steering unit popped the upper seal when I was examining it with the seller--got a few bucks knocked off for that. I went thru the column and replaced all the seals and o-rings. Picked up all new ball joints and rod ends.

While the Kohler M20 was out, I freshened the valves and rings, new seals, and found an fully adjustable Kohler carb to replace the lousy Walbro.

The 60" Haban was pretty nice. Needed new wheels, but the spindles were perfect.

Still needs some work--align the front end, braces, the mule drive hanger is bent all to heck and ruining the belt.

I did a small test mow out back and it isn't disappointing so far.

Can't wait to try this thing out, but it sure needs a bath.

Regards, Chris

From the looks of your herd you'll fit in just fine. Holler if I can help.

Appreciated.

The 782 is staying to use near my house--there are places the 50" will barely pass, to say nothing of using the 60". I pulled the KT17 series II a couple months ago and had a local machine install new guides and hone the bores. This engine went from being a pain to start to being nearly effortless. Seems quite a bit more aggressive as well. Can't wait to try it.

The 1541 is not staying with me. I bought it cheap for the very nice 50C deck to put on the 782. Not liking to waste stuff, I decided my dad needed a new mower. The 1541 will get my old, but servicable deck off the 782 with new bearings. Plastics on that thing are, of course, beat to heck. My dad won't care. He is liking the idea of the hydro trans and lift. Plus, all the interlocks still work to my great annoyance.

Chris

Don't sell the 1541 short, a little TLC and they are a great machine. That series is my favorite. Yeah I know I'm not right.

If you knew what I really did for fun, you'd understand why my interest in the 1541 is lacking. There is a row of Farmalls behind the garage just out of the shots. And I collect vintage chainsaws. The older the better.

Saws like this? I think we have over 30 last time I counted. Haven't picked up any new ones in close to 15 years.

Plenty of red tractors here to ranging from 1920-1974.

I had to weld up some wear on the mule drive on my 2072. The PO pretty much carried the deck with the tractor. I have it set up to roll on all 4 wheels when its mowing.

First WELCOME. Once you get all the bugs worked out on that 2072 and the braces on it will be a real beast and a blast to operate.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
