Default 1772 Cutting Deck

Here we go again!

I've just completed a renovation on a 1772 over the other side on the pond and am attempting to fit its cutting deck. I've released the front adjusters but there simply isn't enough play to lift the deck on to the forward facing prongs and line up the rear spring fasteners with the drive belt under tension

I expect I'm doing it incorrectly but haven't an instruction manual to follow.
So, any advice would be most appreciated please.

Ian

Put the deck on and then install the belt. What deck are you working with?

Hi Sam,
how do you get the belt on under tension?

Is the belt the correct length? Here is a chart from the tech section.

I'm going to guess you have a 50C deck. Here is the manual.

EDIT: That appears to be a 44 or 50C. Looks like the ID tag is on there.

got the deck and belt on, however a few more questions!

Should the drive belt V (narrow side) fit in the deck pulley groove?

Also, despite trailing the PTO prior to fitting the belt, when now engaged it stalls the engine! any ideas please?

Thanks

Ian

Yes. The correct type of belt is considered a "Section B" belt.

Make sure ALL the pulleys and deck spindles are "free travel" with resistance.

Thanks everyone,
Got it sorted and been out for a trial grass cut, which went to plan with the 1772 cutting perfectly. I think I had insufficient revs when I stalled the engine using the PTO, all good now.
Happy days!

I spoke too soon!

Just went out to move the tractor in to the barn and the glow plug indicator came on and stayed on despite me switching off the started key. I had to disconnect the battery to turn off the light! any ideas?

I guess I can expect a few teething issues since the tractor remained unused since the 90s until I rescued it from a farm barn last year.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
