So during our last ice storm here in central texas I was checking craigslist for 782 parts. I found an ad for a guy wanting $30 for 4 derelict lawn tractors. One picture showed an 1872 so I drove an hour and picked up the 1872 and grabbed an unknown later model SGT. It turns out the later model was a 2284 that someone replaced the 22hp command with a magnum 18. But it had a complete 60" Haban deck. Drive shaft was broken. No plastics and the rear fender was all mashed up. My intent was to part them out and use the power steering and dual hydros on my 782. Tinkering got the better of me and I got the M18 running, fixed the drive shaft and wow it moves! So now I really can't part it out.
So now I am searching for parts and plan to bring it back to life and add a loader. |

Can't beat that for the money. Looks like that engine may be out of a Sears tractor.

Now I am debating if I sell the 1872 parts to fund the restoration or keep them to use on the 782. I am actually shocked how easy you can get cyclops stuff new still. Not cheap but at least it's available.

Here is a list of stuff I need for the 2284 (so far haha):
Rear fender pan Gas tank Side covers Grill Hood Hood hinges Anyone have some spares laying around?? Started digging into it a bit more today and both check valves are leaking on the hydro and so is the power steering box. I may attempt to rebuild it with the seal kit. Does anyone have the manual on how to do it? |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
