ive had an idea to add an oil temp gauge to my k301. it would be nice to have some way to monitor engine temps and oil temp seems to be about the best way to do that on an air cooled engine. im thinking of drilling/tapping either the oil pan or the side of the block but it would be awesome to put it in the oil drain hole. a mechanical gauge would work fine but since the temp sensor is permanently attached to the gauge i would have to drain the oil to pull the engine, with an electric gauge i could simply unhook the wire from the sending unit. anybody ever do this? opinions welcome.

Where would you put the sensor in/on the engine?

I would not want the straight in sensor in the drain hole as the thing and the wires would be hanging straight down.
And if it has to be adapted from 1/2" npt to whatever the sender requires, it gets worse. Welding in a port into the side of oil pan would be better. |

as i said in my original post i would drill/tap either the oil pan or the engine block.

I like the idea, where do you think you'll mount the gauge?

Since I have a 108 I was thinking of using the big empty spot where the cigarette lighter would go in the dash.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
