Default What parts do I keep (1641)?

Hello all-
I blew the engine in my 1641 (shattered the connecting rods...). So I was able to pick up a second 1641 on craigslist for $450 with a 551 blower and a retrofitted deck (no mule drive though?!) What I needed was the engine, the attachments only sweetened the deal. I plan on selling some attachments and parts to recoup some of the cost. (I'll probably keep the blower and sell my single stage one.)
Anyway, I don't want to keep an entire spare tractor lying around behind the garage. I would rather just keep the parts worth keeping and scrapping the rest.
So far I am keeping the back wheels and rims, the hydro valve/cylinder/lines. The PTO. The starter and carb off the blown engine. Odd nuts and bolts and solenoids. A friend told me to resell the Hydrostatic Transmission on craigslist since their sought after for tractor pulling. I don't know if I should separate the hydro pump off the trans or leave it on?? Also I can't get the rock shaft off without a lot of wrestling so I don't know if that's worth it. Anyway, I think that is about it for what I have salvaged so far.
My question is: is there something I should be still pulling out to either store or sell?
I am also really interested in modifying my 1641, so I think I will try to couple the valves to add hydraulics to the back or front. But if there are any interesting mods I can do with other spare parts I would be interested in any suggestions there too. (By mods, I mean practical mods that would help with the yard or garden work, not really interested in adding wheelie bars or flame throwers...)
These are great tractors and I hope I can keep it going for a long time. Or at least until I find a great deal on a super...

Junk is something you need the week after you get rid of it.
Get one of those two dollar camo tarps @ china fright and cover it behind the garage, setting it on 4, 2x6's about 12" long each to keep the tires off the ground.

There are a lot of good parts on a 1641. Super steer front axle 3 turn steering column Etc. If you have room for a few totes. Break Your Parts tractor down-to... Parts. You can store a whole tractor minus the big pieces like body and frame in a couple of totes. Trust me since you have a 1641 already you will appreciate keeping those parts. Not to mention if you get an older Cubs that super steer front axle and 3 turn steering column makes operating an older cub even more enjoyable.

Good luck

Wish you lived closer, I'd buy the complete 1641 without the engine. I have a 16HP Vanguard that needs a place to call home.

Also just a FYI the hydro rears are not something the pullers use, they go for the older cast iron gear drives.

Thanks so far guys. I will have to look into pulling the front axle and the steering column. I don't know much about 3 turn steering, but obviously both my cubs have it. But I must say the steering on the one I am stripping down was much easier than my "good" tractor.
Thanks also for telling me about the transmission, sounds like that might not be to valuable after all.

As others suggested, put it under cover, and keep the whole thing.

Price some of those consumable parts from your Cub dealer and you may change your mind about getting rid of them.

The plastic is all damaged in some way. As far as the wiring, I actually left the wiring harnesses alone, thinking I can pick up wire at any time. But I will look to pull that too.
I really am trying to clean out some of the stuff that so quickly accumulates.... That is why I am not to keen on keeping the whole extra body. Besides the frame is nothing to brag about on the scrap one.
I appreciate the input. I will have to re-consider all the stuff I passed by. Thanks.

Your transmission will need seals someday. You could resealed the old one and then just swap them out when it is time.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
