Default 782 rebuild...it begins....

Picked this one up for parts for another project, but have decided i'm just going to tear into it and see if I can get her back in top shape.

Has (had lol) the dreaded KT-17 with a broken rod, hoping to find a good M18 to put in her when the time comes.

Also, the original 782 rear end & pump were pulled so I swapped in a ported 1450/1650 rear into it. Not sure how well it will work though....

Same hydro. Won't even know it was changed.

As a suggestion, I would look for a different engine. The KT's and Mag's are the same engine with different ignition systems. Parts are getting scarce and so are "good" running engines with low hours. I'd look at a CH Kohler or a Vanguard from a donor tractor.

Good luck!

Almost totally stripped down.

haven't figured out how to get the pedal linkages apart and out as of yet though, so may leave them attached. Hope it won't effect painting it too much.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
