Another Stupid Serial Number Question
Without getting into a whole big thing about the "why" I need to find out what the difference is between the serial numbers on the 1650's.
Apparently the 1650's have at least 3 different kind codes: 0067 0070 listed as a "1650 model 856" and an 0670 that is listed as a "1650 (hvc)" Can anyone shed any light on these differences? What is a "1650 model 856"? What does the "hvc" stand for? On a side note, I also have a 1650 that has no "U" in the serial number, anyone know what's up with that?

HVC =
"Back in the days of yore, the Federal Government decided that after a certain date, all motor vehicles (including lawn mowers & garden tractors) had to comply with certain safety and noise standards. I would guess that at that time IH added "hvc" to the model number indicating a Home Vehicle Compliant Cub Cadet, meeting the federal standards. Note that the machine codes changed slightly from 0067 to 0670 at the same time so dealers would know what standards had to be met when doing repairs, etc..."

Cub Cadet produced a couple of models for a company called Vermeer Manufacturing Corp. The Cub Cadet 149 was a Vermeer Model 834, and a 1650 was a Vermeer model 856.

I saw one of the Vermeer on Craigslist a few years back, I just thought some idiot painted a cub the wrong color. Thanks for the info.
