Default New from central Illinois

Hello everyone! I've been a Cub Cadet fan for over 40 years now. Ever since my grandpa taught me how to drive his 127. I've owned 3 originals, but had to get rid of them, a decision I have regretted ever since. I now have a 129 that I've had in storage for the last 15 years. My wife has been begging me to get rid of it, but I can't let it go. Recently, I was fed up with push mowing my yard and decided to give in. I decided on a new XT2 42". I was all set to make the purchase when I asked the salesman if he would take a trade in. I was expecting a resounding no, but he told me he would have to see it. When my wife asked why I hadn't purchased the new mower I told her I had to dig out the old one so he could look at it. She decided that if they were willing to look at a 40 year old tractor, that it must be worth something. "Yep, that's what I've been trying to tell you." So now I am in the process of rebuilding/restoring the 129, after the garage gets cleaned out of course.

Welcome to OCC.

Tell your wife that even if you spend half the cost of a new mower on your 129, you will never NEED to buy another. You may WANT more Old Cubs, but you'll never be required to buy another... Unless your wife decides that she wants one too (which is entirely possible).

Yeah, that's pretty much the argument I kept regurgitating in order to keep it this long. It just took someone else being interested in it for her to believe it.

As soon as I get some space cleared in the garage I'll get some pictures.

Welcome! These IH built Cub Cadets are very dependable, and parts are still found easy enough! Great group of folks around these garden tractors! Hope to see your 129 on board, and get the chance to share in your 129 journey!

I have lived in Charleston for the last 16 years, but I grew up in Crescent City and consider it my home town.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
