Rogue carburetor

Just about done fiddling with a K301 and decided to get the carburetor douched out on the new to me K321 which came out of a 149. While cleaning the carb from the K321 I noticed the upper screw for the air cleaner was cracked. Not a big deal really. Then I remembered I have this carburetor I scavenged off an olde cub years ago. (that's another story)

Here's where the fun begins. Digging that rogue carburetor out of the bottom drawer of my roll-away I notice the choke butterfly has spring loaded reeds. My interest is piqued. (carter casting #C236315, stamped E235058, main needle 235415) Checking the reference manual and cross checking with parts tree and CC Specialties I had decided it is indeed off a 10/12hp engine.

Interesting note... Of the three carburetors I have for 12hp engines no two have the same choke butterfly. (all carter casting #C236315)
1) two small holes
2) one small hole top, one larger hole bottom
3) one small hole bottom, 2 reeds top

Also, the reference manual denotes one of the 12hp carburetors uses a #2 rebuild kit where the others use #1.

Anyone know the difference between the two kits? Needle seats?

I'll take a crack with this Guido. This is just a general thought of why carbs are different, and years or where sold is only examples.

One carb, may of come off a late '68 tractor that went to a dealer in Georgia where the altitude is only 60' above sea level. One tractor, but late '69 went to the mountains of Colorado where the altitude was 6500' above sea level.

The third tractor, but a 1972 year went to Minnesota.

All same size engine, but possible different EPA regulations, engineer update changes for the year(s) to work for given area, while being the same cast carb number.

Factories don't throw away parts. They use up what they have and many times it's a mis-mash of years, but it works.

I know I couldn't give you a definitive answer on the needle seats as I don't know without having the carbs in hand to compare these areas, but since there's 2 different rebuild kits, there's enough difference somewhere, to have a need.

That need, according to that carb's serial number could of been an update of improved seals due to fuel or heat that the engineers determined was needed for that time, but we'll never know as there's no one to ask --- why.

All Carter casting #C236315 with 235415 high speed needles

1) on 1969 127 / stamped 235058... parts tree says use carb 47-053-08... reference manual states use rebuild kit 25-757-02

2) off unknown year 127 / stamped 4705313... parts tree says use carb 47-053-13... reference manual states use rebuild kit 25-757-01

3) rogue carb / stamped E25058... parts tree says use carb 47-053-12... reference manual states use rebuild kit 25-757-01
(my memory is vague, this carb may have come off a 129)

Not to high jack but if the 25-757-02 is for the larger 16HP engine did a larger card go on AQS engines? Cub Cadet lists the 25-757-02 for the 1250, 1450, and 1650.

Upon further reading, a guy on garden tractor talk says the seats are different. The -01 is slotted for screwdriver removal and installation and the -02 has the hex for socket removal. I don't have a -01 here so I can't compare.

I neglected to mention the three units are 26mm throats and one is an 'N' model. I only researched this to identify the spare carburetor in the bottom of my toolbox to see if it was from a 14 horse motor. It is not. The 14hp uses a 30mm. Even though it is immaterial, I still find the amount of variance intriguing.

Sounds like the same carb that is on the 104 I'm restoring.
Just disassembled it today and have it soaking in carb cleaner
