Fixed a starting problem on the 1572 today!
I've had an intermittent starting problem on the 1572 for some time now where after glow-plugging, hitting the starter would just cause a clunk on the solenoid. I started following the schematic to see what the problem was. The battery was over 12.6 volts so I went down the line with the schematic trying to find a voltage drop somewhere. I initially found the ground lead from the block to the negative lead on the battery would smoke intermittently when cranking at the block side. So that got replaced. Next up, I found about 1.25 V across the - 40A circuit breaker. At $ 4.65 it was a cheap replacement. The only other items in the path in the starting circuit was the brake switch, the key starting switch and the PTO switch. I took the PTO out and found a loose terminal. I could have probably tried to solder the terminal to the rivet that protrudes from the inside of the switch, but at this point, since I had a switch already, I just swapped it out. the new one looks much better than the old one that was installed when the tractor was built!
While it is not below zero, it spun right over on the first try with no clunking if the start solenoid. Time for a beer !!

Thanks Darrell! I know everyone likes pictures, so here is one of the offending switch. Now that I look at it, it is pretty ratty. The terminal at the top left was the one that could "swivel" about 1/16" back and forth.

That's for sure Terry, as bad as the switch looks, it still looks better than some of the ones I see up for sale on epay.
