Default Oh great, now what?

Bllwnkl here again. The guy that just replaced the crank seal on the 1250. Prior to the seal issue, I put an aftermarket carburetor on it and a universal plastic see through fuel filter as well. It bolted right up, linkage hooked up perfectly,The governor seems fine, and it runs great. That is until it gets hot. I have a little over an acre of yard to mow. I can get about 3/4 done and it starves for fuel. If I let it cool down, it's fine again until it gets hot. When it first did this, you could see the fuel bubbling in that filter. I put the old filter back on (it's metal) but it didn't help. Can't understand what the carb has to do with it unless I have something else going on at the same time. Can you help me out? Please?

Some of those filters are pretty poor. I just replaced mine this past fall and had to get another brand. It wasn't letting fuel thru. The filter was clean. I believe the mesh is too fine.

Yup, I have had this happen also.. Bypass the filter and try it. Also check you float settings. Also.. You have ALL the covers back on the engine right??? Engine will overheat if you dont.

Make sure the Fuel Filter is "gravity" rated (non fuel pump). Using a fuel pump rated fuel filter on a gravity flow fuel system, will cause problems on a 1250.

The 1250 should have a screen in the tank as part of the shut off. That is all the filter you need. Any other filter that you add inline may cause problems like this.

Yes! New air filter and pre-filter, cover on, side plates on.

Not sure it’s the fuel filter. I had the same thing and it ended up being a bad valve in the engine. Did the same thing as it got hot

Default Follow up on Oh great, now what? (pictures)

Thought I would see what kind of shape the fuel tank shut off valve was in. Found this.

Default Interesting?

I ordered a new shut off valve for my 1250 from one of our sponsors and it doesn't have the screen. Now I will have to use a filter. I was going to go without one.

Unless it was pictured that way, I would return it and get the right one.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
