Default How to free wheel on a cub cadet 1340

Hi.
I own a Cub Cadet 1340 with Hydrostatic.
How do I put the tractor in free wheel so I can push the tractor. I need to rebuild the engine but at the moment you need Arnold Schwarzenegger to push it. How do you make the tractor free wheel? is there a screw on the transmission or something?
Many thanks.

It may not free wheel, my 1864 does not. Tells me in the manual not to push it more then 10 feet could damage transmission. Check your manual it should tell you, good luck.

Some tractors have two valves under the seat (some under a small plate held by a bolt). On top of the valves is a small pin to press to free wheel. I have two 1811's. One has the pin style valves, the other no pins, and it free wheels without doing anything. Hope this helps.

Does the 1872 have a similar free-wheel device?

The 1872 has self-unloading check valves; all you have to do is roll the tractor.

The 1340 (and 1440, 1641, and a couple others) should have a release lever visible from the rear of the tractor on the rear frame cover plate.

I have a 1641 and the release lever is right on the tunnel cover.

I wonder what I thinking of then...I wonder if they changed that at some point? I could swear I've seen some with the release at the rear.

I had a 2135 a few years back that had the release rod towards the upper edge of the hitch plate, you pulled it out and down to lock it into "neutral".

Are you sure on this as I have a 2072 that the fuel pump quit working and I could not push it at all. Unless it has to have more of a pull then I could do by hand. I do know that it had a sticker on the tunnel that said towing more then a few feet would result in damage to the trans.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
