Last fall I used my Cubs planting food plots. I used my 149/tiller and 128 w sleeve hitch. The guys I am in a club with are talking about either building or purchasing a cultipacker. Anyone on here ever use one? Or build one? Some of the ones I have looked at are rather pricey and really not set up for our Cubs. The ones I saw would have to have the hitch redone. And the smallest one I found was about 4 foot wide. I guess that would work. Your thoughts? Thanks.

Still going to have to tear your ground up. Culti-packers don't pull very hard unless your ground is like powder, then they sink in and you'll know its back there. I still run a culti-mulcher on my corn ground, it has 2 rows of teeth for spoiling out tracks, incorporating chemicals (or lime or fertilizer), or lightly tilling between the first and second set of rollers.
For a Cadet, you should be able to make a tow type about 3-4ft wide, single section of rollers. Can't say I have ever seen one that small, unless it was made recently for the food plot crowd. Every one I have seen has the rollers slipped onto a "pipe" that has bearings in each end. Also, the "little ones" normally have a set of wheels for transport. When you get ready to use it, you unhook, flip the tongue (entire machine) 180 and hook back up. Look around Craigslist or any local machinery jockeys--good places to find a smaller one. A mule drawn section harrow may work well for fine finishing as well. Here is a pic of my culti-mulcher. It sees about 30 acres a year still. If you drop the teeth in pretty deep the M knows its there.

Can't say that I ever seen a L&G version of a cultipcaker.
![]() I suppose one could buy a good used one at a Farm Auction and cut it down to your desired width.

I believe someone did indeed shorten the width to thinking it was about 5' Also instead of transport wheels it has skids on either side made from a large truck leaf spring. Considering the weight of it, I think a GT would not move it, much less use it, as it pulled nicely with a JD "A" but was really too narrow for it. It was in the fence row of a piece of property I purchased many years ago. It was a heavy SOB so it went for scrap in '12 when china was paying $.10 a pound for iron. it was useless for a Gt and way too small for todays farming. |

I have never seen one in person so not sure how heavy these things are. Besides if I use my tiller to break up the soil, I think using some kind of homemade drag to cover the seeds after we broad cast them would work just as well. And a whole lot cheaper. i agree about finding a used one (cheap) to cut down. But then not sure about the weight.

You'd probably do alright dragging a piece of fence with something heavy on it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
