Default A 109 was calling to me

Found a 109 on craigslist that seems like it needed a new home. Actually, it also has a model 2 tiller attached complete with main belt, angle gearbox and belt cover on tiller. That's what originally caught my eye. I have a model 1 tiller on my 127 but the model 2 will work better on my 1450 by covering both rear wheel tracks. The 109 also had some needed parts to finish my 1450 refurbish (I'll post continuing progress as I have time). Little things like the steering wheel insert, coil bracket and mule drive setup for the tiller. One note of interest, someone installed a unique hydraulic lift assist. Only problem is he mounted the pump assy to the right fender sheet metal. It was kind of flimsy when operating the pump handle, probably should have had a stiffener plate for better support. Tractor was abandoned next to a creek that overflowed and flooded his property. The engine had about two quarts of water in the crankcase before the oil drained out. Most mechanicals (shafts and bolts) were rust frozen but all loosened up nicely with penetrant. Taking my time removing the tine pipe off the tiller output shaft. Some heat and penetrating oil seems to be having the desired effect. Getting anxious to firing up the 1450 and seeing this tiller loosen up some Western NC red soil.

Has anyone seen a hydraulic cylinder/pump like this before? Any ideas about the original application? Seems odd that it fit perfectly from the quick attach bolt location to the lift handle. The pump assy has a control lever that says "raise" on one side and "lower" on the other. Could this be an aftermarket accessory specifically for an application like this? Just curious. The rod end seemed modified but there could other ways to attach to the lift handle casting. Only good for rear attachments though, as the rod was attached to the hole for the front plow lift rod.

The pump looks like that form a cab over, like a mack garbage truck. The cylinder I don't know.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
