Default Recent purchase 1650

I originally looked at this 1650 back at the beginning of the year. But I found a few others that I wanted to buy first. Then I saw it listed on Craigslist a few moths ago, but the ad was pulled after 2 days. They originally wanted $400.00, then $250.00. I ran across it again on Craigslist a few days ago, now for $150.00. It hasn't been run in about 4 years, but amazingly all the controls move freely. Take a look at the 1 picture & see why I definately could not pass on it again. Yes, it has a cat 0 hitch. The po said that they have owned it since the early '80's. The mower deck gave out early, so they mainly used it for gardening. They have a few attachments that I might go get later. They said that they had the dealer install the lift & the arm rests. The seat is shot, but I will put the arm rests on the new one. I need to put a rebuild kit in the carb. If it is like most of my recent finds, I hope to have it running in a few days. They listed it for $150.00 obo, I gave $125.00!!!

Jarhead,
I would take that stack off or brace it before it cracks the block.

Great find Jarhead. Where did you find that at? I'm also in GA and look at CL at least 2 times a day. I have a bad case of yellow fever.

Default Recent purchase 1650

Well, after a few hours of tweaking the 1650 is up & running. I had to swap out the coil & carb. The first thing I do when I bring one home that has been sitting for a long period of time, is pull the spark plug & pour in some Marvel Mystery oil. Let it sit awhile & then turn it over by hand qiute a few times. These old K-series Kohlers are amazing. It seems that if you can turn it over by hand & not make any noise, you won't have much trouble firing them up. Everything works. I'm used to getting these that have been out in the elements for awhile & having the wiring harness all chewed up, & having to jump them off with a seperate battery & jumper cables. Not this one. The key switch works, the light switch works, as do the headlights. The directional controls work, with no creep. The hyd. lift works, but I will have to install a pin in the linkage to get the cat o to work. Oh. the stack was braced well by the po. It looks solid. Overall, for $125.00 tractor, I beleive this one will turn out to be a good one.

that was a nice find for 125! Even better that you got it up and running pretty quickly.

any plans to restore it or are you a fan of the rough and weathered look?

Since you said you need to replace the seat, check this out. Fit perfect on my 1450, and you can't beat the price!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
