Good idea or not? That 125 I picked up I'm pretty sure never had it's hydro fluid changed out in it's life time, but as with some things, is it better left alone?
I myself think I should change it, it's actually driving me nuts looking at it in the corner, it's almost like it's telling me to "come over here and get this sludge out and get me some new fluid running through me here". But on the other hand, like with some auto's, you change the transmission fluid and the next thing you know the transmission goes out, or starts to slip. What do you all think? And if you think it should be changed, what would you recomend?

hey zippy1, not having the wealth of knowledge and experience these other guys have, i took their advice and changed mine out. i found a ton of crud and potential problems. what looked like maybe the blending of multiple trans fluids, (the right one and the wrong one) and the fact that it sat for some time in the heat of summer, then the chills of winter. i tore it all the way down to the bone just to make sure that there were no lingering gobs of goop. i gave it a nice warm bath in parts cleaner, and i'm waiting on some new gaskets and orings. i can't wait to see how well it performs. if you can, take some pics of your operation. i'm sure there are a few people out there that haven't seen this done or what to look for.

Change it, and you'll have the piece of mind that it will last another 50 years without incident.
There is really little that can go wrong when changing the fluid...just make sure you replace the filter as well, use Hytran, torque the rear end cover to spec with a new gasket...it wont leak if you torque it to spec, I've seen guys crank the heck out of the rear cover and warp it around the holes, and presto...instant puddle on the floor. Its really easy to do it right....let it sit for a bit when you pop the cover so all the fluid drains from the axle tubes, and wipe out any sludge from the bottom of the rear end. Have fun! ![]() Jeff (teet)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
