Changing front wheels
I have a 149 that has front tire size of 16-6.50-8 and am going to be buying a new set of tires for it. I think I have decided on buying the Deestone super lugs from GCT, and would like a set of the matching 3 rib deestones but the closest size I can get is 4.00-8, they recommend they be on a 3" wide rim, I think my wheels are about 5-5.5" wide. So, I was wondering if I could get a set of front rims off a different cub that has the narrower wheels. Not really sure what would fit, if any....I am interested in only something that would fit the stock unaltered spindles on the 149....that is if there is such an animal.
I am sure from the vast knowledge of cubs on this site, someone has some answers for me. I do not want the smaller wheels bad enough to alter the tractor itself, looking for something that will bolt on directly, if it exists, what tractor model numbers would have the narrower wheels? If there is nothing that will fit without altering the tractor, I wil bit the bullet and either shell out the big bucks for the firestones which are available in my tire size (unfortunately they will cost about $50.00/ pair more than the rears I have decided on!) or get some of the 5 rib tires, I believe they are called a V61? Any cons to changing the wheel size? I don't plan on adding anything heavier to the front of the tractor than an IH snow plow. I think the tires I am looking at are rated for 340 lbs, should be more than adequate for what I am doing. Sorry about the length of the post, I tend to ramble on at times, thanks for any info you can provide! Jeff

The narrow front wheels with tri ribs on the wide frames is one of my favorite looks for your 149.

Thanks for the info, so basically any narrow wheel will work on my tractor? Now I just have to find a set. I haven't seen one with the narrow wheels and tires, but I image it will nice, like the big tractors.
