149 deck

I just purchased a 149 with a front blade and mower deck....the deck tag reads U1111, the blades are app. 17'', and the cover on top of the deck covering the pulleys is one piece....is this a 48''?

It should have numbers on the tag before the U1111, my 149 deck number is 483-U1111. I believe the 48 indicates width, the 3 indicates 3 blades, no clue what the U1111 indicate, if it means anything at all, if so I am sure someone will step in and let us know. The 483 may be painted on the tag while the U1111 is stamped, I am not near mine at the moment to double check for you.

I just reread your post, my deck has two individual covers over the outside deck pulleys, the center pulley is uncovered, so yours may differ from mine. My deck looks like it is made of plate steel, it is kind of squared off on the corners, not contoured to the shape of the blades like modern decks and had a large cast iron nose on it that has mounts for the front hangers and wooden guide roller.

I saw a picture of a 50'' with the top guard piece like mine

Decks with the one piece cover for the wide frames are either a 44" or a 50". Sounds like you have a 50".
