Well, I HAD my 1250 running and driving this morning. I shut it off, turned the key back and pto switch on to see if I had juice going to the pto. I then got a phone call and had to leave for about 3-4 hrs. Stupid me forgot to turn the key off. Now I can't get it to start. I checked the points and they aren't welded together. Where should I go from here?
On a separate note, I got to looking at the pto and it doesn't look like it is pushed clear on the shaft. How much clearance should there be between the outer ring and engine block?

From what I have read, the coil will cook (lack of a better word), if the key is left on and can cause a no start issue. There is a file in the tractor library that shows how to check the coil and make sure if it is in or out of spec.

Makes sense, as the coil was very warm when I brushed my hand across it. Will have to dig out the multi meter and check it out sometime this week.

You may have also "cooked" the PTO switch. You may want to check that too.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
