Default New 482 owner

I bought this at an auction last week and love it. I have a couple questions I was hoping someone could help me with. It's a 482, model# 143482399 but it has a Briggs Vanguard 16HP V Twin and a 44inch deck, model# 35819x 44C. From what i could find these were not stock in the 482 but were in the 582 Special.

My question is, do I basically have a 582 Special? Were they the same tractor except for the motor and deck?

Its a great tractor, I put my 07 Simplicity Broadmoor in the shed and I think I will leave it there.

rwinter that 482 has been repowered at some point in it's life. That was born with a 11 hp briggs engine. The 582 had a briggs opposed twin. The 16hp vanguard was in the 1641 cyclops ans in some of the newer 2165 series tractors. Still not a bad motor. I have a 1641 with a vanguard in it and I love it.

Nice to meet you, and welcome to Only Cub Cadets.net! I have a Vangaurd 14 twin in my MTD/White lt. And for a 1990, no smoke or power loss. A good runner IMHO.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
