Hello all, I posted in the new forum, but was advised to post here as well.
Hello from SW Iowa folks. I just recently aquired a 1872 that belonged to my father. I remember going to the farm auction where he purchased it about 25 years ago. My father pasted away in 2001 leaving the up keep and maintenance to my brother and bro-inlaw. Over the years they have focused on just keeping it running shade tree style with out proper up keep; this has resulted it hacking some of the wires & splicing to get something to function. Now for the problems I've inherited: the PTO switch will only work by holding the switch up. (What switch do I need?) after 20-30 minutes of mowing an inline fuse added between the amp gauge and switch blows. I've replaced the clutch thinking it was the problem, and tried to trouble shoot the wiring but I need a wiring diagram for this tractor. Does anyone have one to share? I also have a 582 upgraded to 18 hp kohler with hydrostat and a 782 not running at present. If anyone could help with a schematic I would appreciate it. Thanks Bob |

Roland has the 1872 wiring, I have it from him some ware printed off in the shop. I too am going to rewire one, if I dont sell it first or just blow the dang thing up. Im going to get a sticker made if it ever runs that says MONEY PIT I have a 582 with a mag in it. What do you need and Ill help you with it. The way I did mine was just work off the 2 wires coming out of the eng harness. I dont have my oil light hooked up. I just ran the 2 wires to the key switch. I think black and white if I remember corectly. Ill have to look tomorrow or this weekend to be sure. Matt will more than likely say what I mean. Im doing a 482 with command now, I really like the gear drives. |

Thank you Mr. Bedell!! Having the diagram makes all the difference in the world.
I'm down in the back today (trying to get in to a chiropracter), so won't be able to trace things out for a day or so. I'll let you all know what I found out on the wiring then, and try to get some pictures posted of my three cubs. You have all been very cordial and helpful. Bob |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
