I have the 3/8" x 81" belt installed. With the adjusting bolt backed all the way out, I have 4" of clearance where the manual says I should have 3-1/2".
The belt is installed with the bevel side into all pulleys from the pto to the drive pulley on the deck. I'm engaging the mow @ 800 rpms, I hear a load bang and the belt is off the adjustment pulley, (right side as you face the tractor). This has happened 3 times in a row. The belt is between the adjustment pulley and the arm on the right side that the pulley bolts to. I assume I need a longer belt to obtain the 3 & 1/2" clearance between the frame and the center of the pulley on the left? When the belt is installed, the drive pulley on the deck looks to be lower in the front, but the deck is level. Both pulleys on the mule drive are the same size, (both in diameter and the bevel for the belt). I'll get pics tomorrow and post. I'm at wits end and about to put the 50" deck back on, stripped yard and all.

That looks like a Gates green belt, which will work fine, but my question is, what mule drive and carriage are you using? If it's the ones from your 50A, that's the problem.

On all my decks , the belt goes under the flat brace on the subframe ??
I noticed you the cast nose style deck , mine is the 44A without the cast nose. Not real sure if that makes a difference ??? |

It is a Gates belt. The mule and carriage came with the deck. It's not the mule and carriage for the 50" deck. I'm going to order an 82" belt.

Belt routing from manual. This is how I have the belt. My measurement from the center of the pulley with the adjusting spring to the front of the mule drive is 4". Manual states it should be 3 & 1/2". That is why I'm ordering a 6882 Gates belt. 82" long.

Looks like the mule drive pulley on the right when you are facing the tractor is bent inwards
a little bit. If its not straight it will throw the belt every time. The older decks used a straight mule drive and the newer decks use an angled mule drive. |

I'll straighten that up before I install the new, longer belt. Good catch!
Thanks The rod the pulleys slide onto appears to be arched. Is that normal, or should it be straight? (3rd row up from bottom, right side).

CD , Looked your pics over some more and i am talking about the brace in the back of the frame , my belts go under that brace. Looks like yours is on top of the brace.
My deck is different than yours , so you might double check. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
