I brought home a barn find the other day and after new tubes, cleaning the glue (probably was gasoline) out of the carb and tank.
Checked wiring for bare spots and traded in the dead battery (punched for 2002 purchase). Yesterday began the task of trying to get her to turn over with a key. Found the alternator under the seat and got the diagrams from this forum. The question I have is that the alternator appears to be for the original Cub. [IE: Bat - Gen - F - L] posts. According to the service manual, the one for my 124 it should have [Bat - Gen - F - Ground] on the posts. ![]() Will the original work on a 124 w/o lights? Thanks |

Your regulator should not be under the seat on a 124,it should be mounted on the grill casting above the heat shield. Not sure if the reg will work though...never tried using a 4 post on a 3 post cub.Maybe one of our other members will chime in...

It was just a minor wiring change to accommodate the extra terminal.
<Ground> hook to the mounting bolt next to the regulator ground strap <Bat - Gen - F> all mount normal <L> Not used Initial test seemed good and I will know for sure when I get finished with a internal engine once over.

The "Voltage Regulator" you have, will work. Just insulate and do not use the "L" terminal.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
