I've been going over my Cub 122, and noticed the void of a voltage regulator...... is it supposed to have one? It should be on the grill behind the lights right? It starts and runs fine, but I haven't had the chance to actually test the voltage when running.....
Is this ok? or should I find a V/R asap???? |

Its ok as long as you keep your battery on a trickle charger. It wont hurt anything unless the wires that go to it touch something maybe. It just wont charge. I am about 99.999999% sure the v/r is under the hood on the 122.

S/B there on the front grill frame at the top.
The lack of a VR will be quite hard on batteries! John

on my 123 there's just two threaded holes on raised bosses in the grill frame.

I have had a 122 for 5 or 6 years that has no charging on it. I just put a float charger on at night and it will run all day. I have had it at a tractor show all weekend and never run out of juice.

I also havent had a charging system on my 147 in years. I need to find a good S/G because I know mine is bad. I think its from a bad VR so I need both. The battery actually last a long time. I dont use the lights at all. Just for starting and coil. I put the charger on it every few weeks or so. When Im using it alot maybe once a week. It has never even acted like it was dying. So you could probably do it less often but it is hard on lawnmower batter to deep cycle it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
