Default Bought a Cub 122 today with a 540 pto adapter on it.

Is this unusual? I've never seen one. The PTO, I've seen, but not this adapter on it. Its bolted on like the real thing.
All ready sold it to a collector at the auction, but any Idea what I should have asked? Kind of late I know.

YUP...that was an Aftermarket PTO Reverser. It was needed to get rear implements to run in the right direction on Cub Cadets. And yes, they are kind of rare.

I have seen the gearbox alone on eBay bring about $300-500, and the PTO rearend about $400ish.

Well, I'm not rich. I couldn't figure out how to remove the box without taking a chance at ruining something, and I had already sold it to a guy, so I just removed the transaxle and let him have it all. Looked like a gear & bearing were pressed onto the shaft of the inner half of the reverser, and removing them is what had me chickening out. So he got a great deal, and i still ended up with a frame, new foam seat for something else, engine, chrome stuff, new clutch parts, 2 new rear 12-12x24 ags, widened rear wheels, and new tri ribs (which are already on my 100) for $100.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
