Default Help!!!!

Well I figured out why my 71 won't start, because the rod that rides on the cam shaft to open and close the points doesn't go in and out. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix it!!!! I want to get this motor running.

Replace the "push rod".

The rod that opens and closes the points? Do they come with an ignition tune-up kit the has the new points, condenser, spark plug, etc.?

You will need Kohler 41 411 01-S. It is available from your local Cub Cadet or Kohler Dealers. The above sponsor would be more than willing to send this to you also.

How does replacing the rod help?? Do they wear down over time?

Some of the original push rods were made of aluminum. If the motor was run low in oil and the push rod area got dry, they got "chewed up". The new replacements are all steel.

If its not going in and out it is either stuck out all the way, worn and stuck, or the cam is broke. The first thing to do is see if you can pull it out. If it's stuck in there it it might be the only issue. If not it could be something worse.......
