Hello all,
Got Basketball anyone? I'm David M Wilkins currently live and have lived in Lexington for nearly 27 years. Last fall I bought a Cub Cadet made by MTD, an 1862 and Sat. afternoon on my first mowing I broke the front axle in two. Because this tractor was made by MTD and not IH, am I in the wrong forum? I'm frantically looking now for a used axle as all sites are showing the diagram but the part 719-3100 is not available. Does this mean an obsolete part? Lonnie's Cub Cadet locally pretty much told me that is the way it is. I'm rather sick of my last fall purchase now. I could have bought a new lawnmower not been this nice but with a warranty. |

Welcome to OCC, glad to have you here and yes you are at a forum that can help you out.
You are only a few miles north of me. Richmond, Ky here. Trust me when I say, you could have bought a new mower that is designed to have to be replaced within two to three years. You are much better off fixing this one and having one that will last much longer than the new plastic and thin metal stuff that is being sold today. The front axle should be fairly easy to locate. As someone noted, call our sponsors at the top of the page and they should be able to get you fixed up. ![]()

Welcome to OCC.
You're in the right place for such a problem. You'll be up and going in short order. Forewarned is forearmed, that tractor can easily lead to yellow fever.

Welcome to the forum. I live in Somerset about an hour south of you and I have 2 front axles that might work. Email me at cubcadet2284@yahoo.com and we will see if they will work.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
