Default M18 engine
Are all M-18's created equal or will I need to watch out for shaft size etc? What do you guys think of the short blocks on ebay?

No All are not equal, some have different cranks etc etc.
The spec number tells how they were equipped from the factory.

YOU can go to Kohlers site and look at the different models of equipment that that engine came in. Then it will tell you the specs from there. I had to do this for my crank on the welder I rebuilt. Seems Miller and Lincoln use a different taper on their machines, both use a command 18 in the unit.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens.
