Default Sears GT 16

Hello guys,
I have an old,1978 or so,sears gt 16 riding mower,Im going to get back to good running order for a friend.
PROBLEM!!!
I have no idea where to get manuals for it.Sears perhaps??havent tryed there yet,but was wondering if anyone new of a source online.

It has a big old 16 horse briggs twin that will start, but is flooded at start up so it will sputter for a minite or so then come up to rpm.It will do this with the fule pump on or off at start up!!It has a aftermarket pump mounted with a seperate switch.

I have never had such a hard time finding out what type oil to put in the rear end,its a 3 speed stick with a high and low range, where to get seals,filters.....Ect
I love our old cubs, such a wealth of info at your finger tips!!
The mower belongs to a friend at church,I brought it home to fix it up for them, replace a couple seals, filters, oil ect and im having a tough time!!!I found a couple sears tractor forums but not much help there, they suggested ebay, but nothing there!!!
I love this fourm,so much willing help.
Here is a couple pics,I took awhile back.............................................. .

Thanks for any help jason

Try this but you need serial numbers for down loadable manuals.

http://www.managemyhome.com/mmh/owne...man+917+252651

This is one that I found . you just have to search you serial # on the same page

Or You can call the Toll free ph. number. very nice folks to talk to.

Diz,
There is one mower shop in town, havent been there yet, they sell the general line of toro and stihl chain saws, that doesnt mean they wont be able to help me but,I kinda figured they were a selling shop not a repair or parts place,if you know what i mean!!!I did think about going in and seeing if they could order some Hytran in!!!

Jim H,
Thank you Ill try to find the ser. number,I dont know much about the old sears mowers,The tranny is the strongest ive seen in a mower, although it looks as its been forged of dirt and grease right now!!With that gannon earthcavator hanging out back id does great wheelies and keeps it from flipping over,LOL,Id like to find the owners a set of chains but im kinda torn about dumping a bunch of cash into something other than my cubs, maybe selfish, but honest!!!Im going to look into the engine today and see if i can get filters, points(if it has them) plugs and see what a carb rebuild kit costs.I am limited in knoledge on a twin briggs,or any twinn for that matter,or should I say even the singles aur cubs have in them,so there will be a learning curve here!!!I do need it as I have two kohlers sitting in the shop that Im gonna go through!!
Anyway,Thanks
Jason

This may be overcome by events, but the Sears GT series tractors take straight 30 weight motor oil in the transaxle. My GT 18 took 5 quarts. The fill is on the left side of the tractor --it's easiest to remove the real wheel to get to it. It takes a while to fill it because it's just a 1/2 pipe plug. I used a funnel with a piece of hose on it... I later put a 1/2 street elbow on it to make it easier to fill.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
