Default Computer Failure

Well I just experienced catastrophic laptop failure about 2 hours ago.

I noticed that the lights were coming on in a reverse pattern than normal then the thing would shut down. I tried it a couple more times, then smoke poured out from underneath.

I removed the back cover and had several boards that were burnt and melted. Am not in a good mood right now. All of my cub data is on that hard drive and I don't have a way to access all my files and documents yet. Will be looking for an external HDD enclosure to install the laptop hard drive into and save some stuff.

But my new laptop is working good, but of course all of my passwords were on a doc file and I can't remember half of them, LOL. Yes I know, should have made a hard copy.

If the hard drive isn't bad you can still get all hour data off it. Was it the HD that burnt or motherboard/ram?

If your computer was made by Lucas Electric, they sell replacement smoke.

Just trying to inject a little humor

I picked up a HD enclosure for my laptop for about $6 off ebay and another one ( fancier ) for my PC for about $10 off ebay.

They came from Asia but made here in less than a week

Yep, that is where I figure I'll find one. I just need to see if the HD is SATA or not.

DWayne sorry to hear about the laptop. I've been known to keep all of my old HD's and I've got a AC powered molex with a SATA and IDE conection on it that hooks up to the PC via USB that I get all of my old data off of. I think they are $15 shipped on eBay.

That's what I'll be looking for as I have both types of hard drives lying around with info no them. I have the same setup, but it is IDE only.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
