I thought this picture would be worth posting. I just bought this 982 (I believe it is IH made) and am picking it up tomorrow. I haven't seen it yet, but the 3 pt hitch is worth what I paid for it. The guy bought the property and it was left behind. He didn't try to start it but said it is complete with no parts missing (except the rubber wheels). The story is that Mennonites owned it and I guess they cannot use rubber wheels so that is why it has these home made steel wheels. I can't wait to see it. Maybe I will get lucky and it will be a running tractor.

Congrats and looking forward to your updates. Makes me wonder why they left the front wheels alone and put steel tires on the back.

You are right it's most likely a Mennonite tractor as they don't believe in rubber. Crazy stuff.

Very cool 982!



I am neighbors to Amish (Actually good friends with them)..And there are a lot of them around this area. One family out on another road has a 66 series black stripe with steel all the way around. The rears are done very similar to your 982's.

Kind of hard to get a flat with those and I bet they don't leave marks in the lawn.

i dont think that is true about the Mennonite not useing "rubber wheels" thats where i got my super duty from was a Mennonite family in seneca falls ny & it had "rubber wheels" on it !! & every tractor & pice of equipment i seen on the property had "rubber wheels" on them. so i think some one is pulling your leg real hard !! lol

There are different orders of Amish and Mennonite, the old order uses no rubber or engines, and it progresses to ones who will use both, and many stages in between.
