Default Steering control comes off?

The rod that goes from the steering to my right front wheel pops off, What should I do about it? Is the rod itself bad, or the ball it attatches to?

Ok, maybe I was wrong. There's a piece that just goes between the two front wheels, and has screw on ends. The ends have a hole in them that fit over a ball. What part is this?

Hi Stitch,
That long rod is called the drag link.
The ends are your tie rod ends. If the part pops off the ball, it's wore plum out. You remove the end and the ball and put a new part on there. The new part is inseparable (until it too wears out in 25+ years).

The parts are available from McMaster-Carr online. I believe you need the 3/8-24 for both the female and ball stud. There are other threads on here telling exactly what you need. Search for mcmaster and you should find them.
