I started to put the breather together on my k241 that I am rebuilding. The seal that was provided with the rebuild kit was considerably longer and harder than the original seal, and did not seem to compress any. Also the kohler manual shows a baffle that goes between the breather plate and the vent cover. I dont seem to have this piece. The filter element fits snuggely when placed vertically, but does not cover the baffle holes unless placed horizontally. Without pulling another breather apart, can you guys comment on the baffle and filter placement?

Ya, that is the same schematic that is in my Kohler manual. My breather plate "H" actually has a baffle on the back side of it, towards the valves, but no loose baffle to put between "H" and "B1".

I've only had 3 different engines apart, but all were like the schematic Roland provided.

Sounds like I'm gonna have to come up with some parts from one of my spare blocks. Thanks for the info.

Well I found a baffle in a parts engine and Im putting it together as the manual shows. Howeve, I have attached a few photos of the breather plate that has the baffle spot welded onto the back side, rather than being a separate piece as the manual shows. So I will end up with two baffles plates, which won't hurt anything as far as I can tell. Just thought it was interesting. Thanks for the help.

I'm no expert, but can't see how 2 baffles would hurt. May even help. You may have started a trend.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
