Default LT-1045 Hydrostatic "service"

How frequently does the Hydrostatic require service? I didn't see anything that resembled a "check" plug, only the fill on the top of the unit. At 180 hours if there's "no visible leaks" do you assume it's still full? Where would the fluid be if you removed the fill plug to check it?

I may be wrong but I am pretty sure your hydro is not serviceable.

the LT 1045 is meant to be "disposable"... the owners manual even states that there is an expected 300 hour lifespan of the machine... I've got one with about 260 hours, doing good...

Thanks for the responses.

GC - What part of the "Wild and Wonderful" do you call home? Charles Town here!

I had never seen the "disposable" comment but I understand it! Not a pleasant thought though. I don't know why even though there is no drian plug that a person couldn't use a vacuum pump or suction device to remove a good portion of the present fluid BUT then replace it with WHAT? 20W50 engine oil it seems!

There's quite an interesting read regarding the "hydo-gear" in it's service manual. I don't know that I'd consider it "disposable" but it may NOT be the most easily serviced component that a person tackles. Requires only hand tools and every bolt is sized and torque values for everything is included.

There's fill levels discussed and it doesn't mention suctioning for service but it does mention a "purging process" to remove air. I'm going to look further into this but I might give it a go. It appears there may be a drain plug on the left case half forward of the axle shafts. If there's a drain plug then service would consist of drain refill and "purge"! Maybe it's not a "throw away"!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
