Default 12hp K301 backfire
Hello all, I'm new to cub's and a proud owner of a very nice 1970 126. I have a freshly rebuilt 12hp(K301) on my newly acquired 126. It was done by a guy who I believe is at reputable cub builder. It runs fantastic but every time I turn it off it back fires. Hopefully is not causing any damage but its driving me crazy. Any suggestions please throw em out me. Thanks in advance.

generally the cause is the carb setting or the ignition timing being to far advance.

Yep, most all of the single cylinder Kohlers will do this if you don't let it idle for a minute or two before you shut it off. So, when you are ready to shut it down, move the throttle all the way down to where it will idle, give it a few seconds, maybe 20 seconds or so and then shut it off.

mine did the same till I rebuilt the carb, installed new points, coil, and condenser.

Thanks for the replies. Letting it idle seems to help a lot. I have soaked the carb and installed a new kit. It's possible I have a bad butterfly shaft bushing as well. I may try pulling back off and soaking again. Thanks for all the help!!

My 124 backfired after the key was turned off. Gapped the points and now no backfire.
