2084 starter problems?
Hey guys, jacked up the cub today and put new Gator blades on her. Let it down off the lift, turned the key and turned over good and fast as normal maybe three or four times then stopped. I checked the battery cables and they were all good and tight to the starter. Battery checked out at 12.45 volts. Checked voltage at the starter with the key in the start position and was getting roughly 6 volts to the solenoid. Don't know if this is right or not. I have jumped every safety switch on it, so have eliminated those. I think it's either the starter or solenoid but not sure. Little help please. Sure someone else here has run into this...

Check the ground cable. I run the ground to the starter on my tractors. The frame grounds suck. See red arrow in pic

I didn't think that 6 volts to the solenoid was right. Going to install new ground cable directly to the starter tonight. That at least is a lot less expensive than replacing the starter or key switch. Thank you all for responding and helping me out!!

On my tractors, I run a cable from the battery negative ( - ) terminal directly to a "good" spot on the engine block. It solved a lot of problems for me.

Hey guys, replaced all the battery cables. Ran a new ground strap from the frame back to the engine. Tractor will still not start. Now when the battery is hooked up the pto light on the dash is on. Does this without the key even being on. Replaced the pto switch not that long ago and wondering if it may have gone bad. Does anyone know if the pto clutch runs through a separate solenoid or something before the clutch? I found a little round thing about the size of a car flasher that I think the pto wire runs into. Turn the key on and operate the switch and the pto does not engage/disengage. I'm at a loss. Any help greatly appreciated....
