Default Pan gasket question
Guys I'm replacing the pan gasket on my Mag12 and it looks like the factory did not use any type of sealant on it. Just wondering what you guys do?

I usually put a very thin "film" of ultra black on both sides of the gasket. Not enough to make it push out when you tighten the bolts. Helps hold the gasket during assembly and a little extra stick. I've seen it done dry also and no leaks.

I used Ultra Gray and just a thin film. I've had better luck with the Ultra Gray on the pan gaskets on my race engines and I had some that's what I went with.

It'll do the job just as well. I'm just partial to the ultra black ever since I used it on the intake of one of my sbcs in my old pickup. When it came time to take the intake off cuz I had a bad lifter I was almost able to lift the engine and stand without intake bolts . Figured if it'll hold that tight it should hold a kohler pan

I use the old school Indian Head Gasket sealer. It has the dobber on the end to paint the cement on. Never had a leaker.

no sealant. clean the bolts and bolt holes with brake clean and a dab of red Loctite. seams most leaky pans have a bolt or two loose . only time I use sealant is if I narrowed up a wide base block to use a cub pan. I use a copper pan and bearing plate gasket on my puller.

Oh well too late now, it's done. The bolts were all tight think it was just old age, sort of like me. This won't get enough use to matter anyway. I just hate leakers.

I don't like leaks but don't like RTV products. I'm using a anerobic sealant on the gaskets when assembling. Wurth orange flange sealer.
