Default 105 starting issues after Hydro Pump Service

I had a fine running 105 a few weeks ago and I decided to pull the rear end and fix the infamous cork gasket leak. Everything went fine, tried to start it up tonight and can't get the engine to light off. Starter engages, although my charge needle seems to drop much lower than it did before. turns over a bit, something chirps loudly then I stop trying. Noticed smoke coming out of aircleaner, pulled that cover off and saw fuel in there.

Engine has oil halfway up the hatchmarks just like before teardown
Fuel Valve is open
Not out of gas
Rear end is topped off with hytran
Took snowthrower belt off front PTO just to isolate, same problem.
Hydro bypass lever is on

Is it possible the hydro pump is somehow locked and preventing the driveshaft from spinning, preventing the engine from starting or something?

I didn't mess with the engine at all besides tightening up the clutch lever to the 1/64 spec with the PTO engaged which I also put back to where it was before and still same problem.

can you rotate it by hand? or is it tight?

I havent tried because I wasn't sure where the best spot to do that was. On my motorcycle I just pulled the pulse generator cover off and used a socket. I couldn't find mention of anything similar in any manuals

I mean I understand they are totally different engines and there are no pulse pickup plates, I meant I couldnt find an explicit procedure for it so I was hesitant to just start turning things.

OK, so all you did was pull the back cover, changed the gasket and refilled it? Now it cranks slow?

The first thing that I would look at is the oil. It is the only thing different.

I completely split the tractor, removed the hydro pump, put in a new cork gasket, reinstalled making sure driveshaft was installed correctly. Tried to start after a few weeks of being down and she wont light off.

For all I know it could be unrelated, just trying to lay out the series of events.

Pull the spirol pin at the front of the driveshaft and see if it starts without the driveshaft spinning (the rear end). This may help narrow it down.

could the linkage be off at all? if its not fully in neutral the hydro could be trying to move the tractor and putting to much of a load on the engine to start it.
